(prompt: vampire!Cas/human!Dean au trusting and loving each other despite their differences)
Dean likes to watch the sunset. He likes the way purple swallows orange, and the warm glow of the fading sunlight on the treetops. From his spot on the top of a hill, he can also see the black night behind him. Straight above him, stars dotted the sky, barely visible here on the cusp of night.
Dean’s favorite part of the day, though, starts now, after the sun has disappeared behind the horizon line. He lights the small lantern he brought and lays back on the warm fleece blanket he carried up from the house at the bottom of the hill.
In that house, he knows, Cas is just waking up. He’s stretching his long limbs and looking around their windowless room. Sometimes Dean greets him when he awakes. Cas always stares at Dean like he can see right down to his soul, always touches Dean’s cheek with chilly fingertips, and says, “Dean Winchester. You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my long life.”
Dean laughs a little now just thinking about it. For an undead thousand year old vampire, Cas sure is a sap.
And Dean is hopelessly in love with him.
Dean opens his eyes to find Cas standing over him, peering down with blue eyes brilliant even in the dim light.
"I was worried when I woke up alone."
